Opportunities for Civic Engagement
Encore Experiences at Harleysville offers many fulfilling opportunities to individuals who want to give back to their community.
We are grateful for, and could not function as efficiently as we do, without our tireless Encore Experiences Volunteers. Please consider joining one of the following volunteer teams. For more information or to become a volunteer today please call 215-256-6900.
Saturday Bingo Volunteer
Saturday Bingo is held at Encore Experiences the second Saturday of each month. This is a major fundraiser of our Members Council. Volunteers assist in the areas of admissions, cashier, set-up, verification callers, food prep and serving, clean-up and more.
On occasion, we need help with light maintenance and handyman type work. This could include organizing storage room, changing light bulbs, light painting, and minor repairs. If you have skills in any of these areas please let us know and we will call on you as needed.
Financial Management Committee
Approximately 35% of our operating budget is provided by contract with Montgomery County Aging & Adult Services. Another 9% comes from North Penn United Way, and 4% of our budget will be provided by SEPA United Way.
Encore Experiences at Harleysville is responsible for raising the remaining funds needed to operate. Traditionally these have included include grants, bequests, corporate donations, special events, building rentals, newsletter advertisements, and individual donations. This committee helps plan financial goals, events and projects to help us meet budget demands so that we can continue to provide more and better services to the community.
Every day there is a volunteer at our entrance desk to greet and welcome participants. This role is critical to our success and helps set the tone for participant experiences. Greeters help participants and member with registration of daily events in the Copilot System. Greeters generally work one day a month from 8:45AM - 2:00PM.
Legal, Medicare, Financial and Notary Services
Attorney Andy Santoro offers legal advice by appointment the third and fourth Thursday of each month.
Ed Savitsky guides participants through the Medicare maze by appointment on the second Tuesday of each month.
Michael Toth offers his services on an as needed basis to help with financial advice and planning.
Claire Shumaker offers notary services by appointment. Call Encore to arrange an appointment.
AARP 55 and Older Program
Encore Experience has partnered with AARP's SCSEP, please see below if interested please contact Patty Roxberry 215-256-6900.
The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is the nation's oldest program to help low-income, unemployed individuals aged 55+ find work.
AARP Foundation first matches eligible older job seekers with local nonprofits and public agencies so they can increase skills and build self-confidence, while earning a modest income. Based on their employment interests and goals, participants may also receive supportive services and skills training through an educational institution. Their SCSEP experience most often leads to permanent employment.
SCSEP is administered by the U.S. Department of Labor. AARP Foundation operates in 21 states and Puerto Rico.
Newsletter and Mailing Preparation
The newsletter is mailed 6 times a year (every other month) and we send major mailings to our community in the spring for a membership drive and at the end of the year for donations.
Do you have a special talent you would like to share/teach? Volunteers currently organize our bowling league, tap dance class, coin club, shuffle board and woodworkers group.
